Description

caliber: .44-40 (1873 Winchester)

The large frame, Fourth Model Frontier revolver, Patented January 9, 1883, was marketed and sold by Merwin Hulbert, New York City, NY and manufactured by the Hopkins & Allen plant in Norwich, Connecticut.  Retaining the general look of its predecessors, has a 7-inch barrel. It features a top strap, scooped cylinder fluted barrel and is double action.  A key innovation was a rotating barrel design which allowed the user to rotate the barrel 90 degrees to pull the barrel and cylinder forward to remove the fired cartridge cases. During the twisting motion, the empty case could be extracted. It retains its original lanyard ring. Tight “vacuum” fit.  Flayderman number: 8A-083
